Sew, baby, sew!

Our first major craft project involving sewing. After a couple weeks of swiss-cheese-fingers [needles can be sharp!], we are proud to announce that Brett finished her first stuffed Clan Cat.

Lightning Kit is happy to join The Girl and her paper cat gang.

Lightning Kit

We used a pattern I found here for a stuffed bear, with adjustments for the tail and ears. Mama did a cat or two for test runs. The two of us did a cat together, then The Girl cut loose on her own. Brett did the entire project herself — cutting the felt, pinning the pieces, sewing them all, stuffing it, and sewing on the details like claws and noses. Can you tell that girl is proud proud proud.

Autumn Saturday

At our latest discovery, Lewis Farm, a small family-run farm not a mile away from our house. Who knew?! We originally went to pick up a few pumpkins for carving, but ended up spending the entire morning playing there. The kids befriended Honey, a sweet horse who graciously gave them a ride. Loved going up the mountain of hay and down the giant slide. Met some pigs, goats, horses, and barn cats, and a cow with an attitude problem who kept mooing grumpily. A fun outing for the Wallners, and the best part? The fresh brown eggs and sausage we took home and cooked for lunch after. Heaven. Lewis Farm, we’ll be back!

First there was Googley Eye, whom you’ve already met. Now add a caterpillar named Spotty who’s currently morphing into a moth. Then add one ant farm. I swear, one more insect in this house and Mama’s outta here.
